Covid-19: Singareni Collieries temporarily lays off underground miners
The company has suspended all its operations in 22 underground mines.
About 20,000 underground coal miners and 9,000 department employees will be away from work.
India’s government-owned coal mining firm Singareni Collieries Company (SCCL) has declared temporary layoffs of underground miners until India’s national lockdown, set in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, is lifted.
The company has suspended all its operations in 22 underground mines.
The company said it is part of a precautionary measure to curtail the spread of the Covid-19 virus and is in accordance with the lockdown restrictions imposed by the Government of India amid the outbreak.
However, SCCL satted that the mechanised sections in the ALP, VK-7 Inc, Shanthikhani, GOK-11A and Kondapur mines will remain in operation until further notice.
